The day after Christmas

I went for a nice, medium size run in Los Angeles. I was there visiting my sister. I lived in Los Angeles 10 years ago for nearly 14 years and it's nice to go back from time to time. On this particular run, right before I hit my last mile, I happened to look down and see the words "You are Beautiful". Of course, I had to stop, take a picture, soak it in and then share! This little painted circle with one little phrase really made day.

This past year hasn't been so beautiful for me. In fact, for the past year I have been told in several different ways that I am not so beautiful through conversations, texts and emails. There were days where it hurt and other days where it was just a Tuesday...because I had become so use to the negativity.

Now, as you know, beauty is not just skin deep...it's all about how you feel inside. Your personality, your presence and what you show to others; that's what makes you beautiful. Some days are not so great but that doesn't mean the beauty from within YOU has to die.

To be beautiful...

  • Take care of yourself from the inside out. Eat the right foods, fuel your mind with positive and encouraging books, music and words. Keep your body at it's best and remember, everybody bodies is different so...
  • Be YOU! Embrace who you are and live with a purpose. Allow your purpose to change and grow with you. Know who you are and what you want out of life and...
  • Don't let anyone dictate who you are. Social media, friends or even family members. You are the only person who holds your happiness in the palm of your hands. You happiness is not in half of someone else, that's ALL YOU, BOO! So own it.
  • Surround yourself with beauty. Art, words, scenery or a beautiful environment. The beach is the ULTIMATE for me. Scared to get in it and live near it but I absolutely love going to the beach and soaking in all of it's beauty, mainly because the beach is also so POWERFUL. 

Whatever beautiful is to you, make sure it is a part of your life. Welcome beauty into your life, no matter how big or small it may be. The light from a candle, a small detail in a painting or the beauty of laughter...they can all bring the love for beauty deep into your heart and make life better and more beautiful.

Let's Keep Moving

The key for the next few days is to keep moving.  Christmas is a time to spend with family, eat lots of food and re-coop before the New Year.  A very easy way to pack on the pounds and lose sight of "the goal".  Here are some easy moves you can do ANYWHERE and stay fit when the season is pushing against you!  Happy Holidays!

Tangled Tinsel?. . .Don't Stress!

DE-STRESS for the Holidays TIPS:

  • Take a brisk walk or easy run.
  • Head to the gym with family and do a group fitness class.
  • Find an old 80s fitness video and get an old fashion workout in and laugh your butt off at the same time.  Burn more calories.
  • Twister is a great way to workout. No video games, just good old fashion twisting!
  • Hide and Seek in the Snow. It will be cold but you can run, throw snowballs and sweat off calories at the same time. 

 

 

With Christmas LITERALLY around the corner, if you are like me. . .some of us are still ON EDGE when it comes to gifts.  My girls Christmas lists are not long but the things that they want, we have not been able to find.  So, as they say. . .no stone will go unturned at this point.  Even though we have had a little family mishap here and there, I am going into Christmas with a thankful heart.  No one is sick or injured.  My girls are happy and healthy.  My husband is working hard to make his family happy and move into the New Year with the things that they want and need.  

No matter what goes on during your Holiday Season, don't get your "Tinsel in a Tangle"! Remember that LOVE is what this holiday season is all about.  So, drop all that stuff you are carrying around and just fill every room with love.  Don't let the stress of making everyone happy take over and don't try SO HARD to make everyone happy.  If you are doing that, YOU will not be happy! Just be you, stay the course and drop the Holiday Stress.  

Happy Holidays and make sure you keep moving...not just wrapping gifts and heading to the mall...but run, kick and workout to keep your heart in the right place.  Season Greetings!

Monday MOJO!

You know Mondays can be great! I know it's hard to get back into the groove of things when Saturday and Sunday served you so well, but Mondays give you a chance to do things over, do things better and give you the opportunity to start the week off on the right foot.

Check out 5 great ways to start a New Week and make Monday fantastic!

  • Before you get out of your bed, visualize having a good day. Snooze the alarm and just lay there and image having a good day with your family, friends and co-workers. 
  • Start your morning off with a healthy, hearty breakfast. I truly believe a good breakfast or power-packed smoothie is a great way to start the day and nourish your body.
  • Think positive thoughts and immediately replace any other thoughts with thoughts that are helpful and beneficial to having a good day.
  • Surround yourself with good people throughout the day and stay away from the nay-sayers. If you get caught up in drama, walk away and stick with those who are progressive, as well as, positive.
  • Build a check list for the week and stay focused. When you write out everything that needs to be done to help push you forward, stick to it and watch amazing things unfold.

HILLS

FRIDAY FIT BIT:

I always say that running up a hill is a lot like dealing with life. Your cruising along on a nice, level course until you see the mother-hill of all mother-hills ahead of you. Oi! There is no way around it or through it. You have to climb it to get to the other side. Well, with 30 years of running experience, I have learned the best way to conquer a hill, whether you are running, cycling or walking, this is how you do it!

  • As you start to climb, look at the very top of the hill
  • Tell yourself and that hill, I will make it
  • Next, put your head down and focus on each step
  • Don't stop
  • Chant or sing your favorite song until you get to the top
  • When you reach the top, do the ROCKY BALBOA dance!

Once you reach the top, going back down is a breeze. But HEY! Don't forget what you had to do to get to the top of that hill because just like life, there will be another hill to climb. It's how you conquered that last hill that will determine how you will deal with the next one. Keep climbing!

Nicol's athletic background started in her hometown of St. Charles, MO where she earned her 400m state ranking 3 years in a row.
