This past weekend was a traveling weekend for me and being a track mom, there was a lot of sitting and waiting. So, needless to say I had a lot of time to read, research and listen. One of the things that I stubbled across were articles about mantras and how athletes at any level use them to get through a tough workout or sporting event. I didn't realize that what I say to myself over and over in my head when working out was basically the same as using a mantra. For example, Here comes that tough hill "Only the strong make it to the top". I hear my competitor making a move in a race, "This is my race, my pace and my win!". From what I understand, when you repeat them over and over, it becomes your mantra.
Do you have mantras that you use throughout the day?
Mantras are defined as a sound, word or phrase that is repeated by someone who is praying or meditating. A word or phrase that is repeated often or that expresses someone's basic belief. Merriam-Webster
The word mantra has two parts: man, which is the root of the Sanskrit word for mind; and tra, which is the root of the word instrument. A mantra is therefore an instrument of the mind, a powerful sound or vibration that you can use to enter a deep state of meditation. -Deepak Chopra
Mantras are an effective way to stay focused on the end result. The idea of taking a positive word or phrase and repeating it over and over again can drastically change the way you think. You can take a negative and make it into a positive. Mantras are also a great way to change what goes on around you. Repeated encouraging thoughts will change the way you feel, think and approach day-to-day tasks.
When working out and setting new fitness goals for yourself, mantras are a great way to get through each stage and reach your goals more effectively. Learn more about Mantras for Athletes, find yours and start making great things happen throughout your fitness journey NOW!
