Today is BIKE TO WORK DAY here in San Diego. Due to the wild fires, the annual bike day was postponed to today! I have meetings here in my area today, so I have dusted off my DIRTYRED BIKE and heading out in about an hour. If you are able to ride your bike to work today. Let's do it!
"Bike commuters can expect a record 97 pit stops throughout the region, offering free refreshments and t-shirts, according to SANDAG. The stops will be staffed between 6 and 9 a.m. A Google map of the pit stops is at http://bit.ly/1nJ0OVf.
More information about the event is at icommutesd.com.
The nation’s percentage of people who commute to work by bicycle increased roughly 60 percent over the last decade, according to arecent U.S. Census Bureau report. Bicyclists still account for just 0.6 percent of all commuters. But they accounted for the largest percentage increase of all commuting modes tracked by the U.S. Census Bureau from 2000 through 2012, the federal agency reported last week.
In San Diego County, 0.7 percent of the region’s 1.4 million commuters biked to work, according to the recent report. About 3.1 percent took public transportation; 2.7 percent walked and 6.3 percent worked at home, according to the report."
Be safe out there and watch out for other bikers, runners and cars!
