The Night Runner

For the past 6 months or so, I have been on a NIKE HIGH with the Nike+ app.  I have a few friends,  I have read about it, gotten other people's opinions and researched all the "STUFF" that comes along with it the Nike+ app.

Even though I LOVE running and fitness, I was in a rut when it came to running.  I didn't want to just "go out for a run" and maybe train for an event.  I wanted to "look forward to my next run" like I did back in the day.  So, I check out a few sites and still wasn't feeling it.

Well, I started to follow NIKE+ on Facebook and the things that people were doing just to get a run it was unbelievable! I am old school, I was just heading out for a run everyday but these kids were running in the dark. . .in groups. . .and making a statement with these cool head lights!  So, of course, I had to start running at night just to spice things up and MAN. . .it is FUN and now I am addicted!

I am a Target Mom so I while I was shopping for some necessities, I checked out there light gear in their camping section.  I found a little "LIFE GEAR" light for $5.99.  It has 5 different light modes and it's just clicking one button while you run.  PERFECT! The first night was amazing. . .my husband went with me on his bike and we covered nearly 5 miles that night and my run was a bit faster than if I would have ran earlier that day.  My adrenaline was off the charts and I was smiling from ear to ear.  My hubby had a good time as well and the faster I went, the more he pushed me! I felt like I was training for the OLYMPICS, MAN!!! LOL!

What's also cool about running at night. . .I looked ABSOLUTELY RIDUNKULOUS and why care. . .no one could really see you! I am sure I caught a couple of bugs in my teeth (I know in my hair) and I got bit on the back of the neck by something CRAZY big because I think I grew another neck after that run! I was dripping with sweat and felt like I could run another mile. . .OK. . .maybe not but it was SO MUCH FUN! . . .and the POWER of the light was amazing because cars that would normally make that turn and try to hit you EVEN THOUGH the "walking man" light is on for you STOPPED because they didn't know what was coming at them.  I would throw up my hand to stop and let my light shine and they STOPPED!!! I felt like SUPERWOMAN! LOL!  . . .OK, that's all I got but try it! I think you will love it!

Here are a few safety tips when running in the dark!

  • Notify someone that you are heading out for a run and let them know your route and time of return OR just take someone with you!
  • Carry your cell phone and carry id with you
  • Wear reflective gear and A LIGHT, MAN! LOL!
  • Be cautious and pay attention to your surroundings
  • Choose a well lit route or open route. Don't head to the trails alone!
  • Always run against traffic
