This past weekend I ran the Strawberry 5K run with my 13 year old daughter and running partner Jeffery! It was presented by Gemini Timing and it was nice event with the perfect weather to start.  There were approximately 1057 participants for this race and everyone was in high spirits.  The route was pretty good because it went through downtown Vista where there was also a local fair.  The only thing that a lot of people were not happy with was the start. There was no notice or gun.  We thought the guy was kidding when he said "On Your Mark, get set, GO!"!  But overall, this was a really cool event and I would do it again!

My goal was to run a 19 something but once we started I didn't want to leave my daughter behind on her 2nd 5K run of the year.  So, I decided to coach her through it and she did pretty good! She ran a 23 coming in as the 23rd woman overall and winning her division.  She is going to have to learn how to pace herself and relax but not too shabby for her 2nd 5K run at such a young age.  I am very proud of her.

The winner of the event was Okwaro Raura  ran a crazy 15:32.6 time.  Raura is also the winner of the 2012 San Diego 1/2 Marathon running clocking in at 1:09 and a top 10 finisher of the AFC 1/2 marathon.  Raura is originally from Kenya and now a USA citizen.  His spirit is amazing and very warm hearted!  He considers Oceanside, CA his hometown.  I think I am going to try and run with him at the next event.  LOL! I know. . .good luck with that.

As for my little legs, I finished with a 22:47 (MOTOACTV tracked me at 22:30. . .I like that time better).  It has been a while since I ran a 5K event.  So this one was a great start to a nice running season.  My next run will be in June when I start the "Runner's Challenge"!  So far we have 10 people signed up for this crazy challenge.  The "Runner's Challenge" will be grueling but fun at the same time!  If you want to learn more read below and shoot me an email at seenicrun@gmail.com!

 Until next time, "Happy Running"!
