AFC 1/2 Marathon and Training. . .UGH!
What keeps you going?

Well, normally. . .I am ready for a 1/2 marathon.  I have put in the miles and keep track of my workouts with my Garmin watch but this year, I just can't seem to get it all together.  Between my traveling, husband, kids and training others, it's been a mad house in my house! Many of you know what I am talking about and wonder what to do?

I run when I can and when I decided to put in the miles this past weekend, I was sick with a cold (yes, that was an ugly run)!  So, while in Salt Lake City, Utah I was reading the latest COMPETITOR magazine and got inspired!!!  I read about a guy who is going to go rowing across the Atlantic and then run from the Bay area of California to the craziness of New York in a kilt and sneakers (and they say skorts are out of style).  Then, I noticed that LA is going to have a 1/2 marathon in October.  Ooooo . . . new motivation!

I know reside in San Diego but I miss the craziness of LA.  The hustle and bustle you feel as soon as you hit the outskirts of LA are definitely a love or hate relationship! So, now I have a whole new outlook on the AFC 1/2 marathon coming up next week.  I am going to clock in about 10 miles this week and then cruise into the event without a lot of expectations.  I do know that I will have fun, meet new runners and finish the event with a smile.  Is there a moral to this story, OF COURSE!

Life happens and you get busy.  Your workouts don't tend to workout the way that you want them to, so you get frustrated with upcoming events.  Don't get upset or uncomfortable with a sport we all know and love.  Just take one running step at a time, grit your teeth and just get through it.  You do NOT have to be fast at every event and you have to remember, if you are OFF on one event, it is OK, there are plenty of other events to train for and to follow.

Next year, I will be 40 years of age and I am ready for 2011.  I am going to PACK and STACK the events, set some serious goals and break my own records.  I am going to build a community of healthy runners and grow a team that will definitely be amazing.  If you want something out of running, GO GET IT! There are plenty of resources out there that will make you a better, faster and stronger runner, so LET'S GO!

Happy Running!
