ZEROWATER

5 REASONS WHY I LOVE ZEROWATER

  1. It's the only water filter certified to reduce lead and chromium from my family's drinking water.
  2. ZeroWater is filtered through a 5-stage filter vs a regular 2-stage filter.
  3. You can test your water with ZeroWater's contaminant TDS reader.
  4. ZeroWater filters come in a variety of sizes. My favorite, the ZeroWater Portable cups.
  5. My daughter loves the convenience of the ZeroWater dispenser that we keep on our kitchen counter. If she's happy, I'm happy!

Resistance Band Workout

When I travel, I always grab my favorite resistance band and throw it in my suitcase. Resistance bands are light, easy to pack and very effective. I don't always have the time to hit the gym in a new or unfamiliar city. So, I have my little bands just in case. Here are 3 exercises that will work the entire body if done right.

TAKE NOTE

  • Watch my posture
  • Do 3 sets of each exercise for 45 seconds - 1 minute each
  • 1 minute rest w/water break between each exercise
  • Pace your workout with a nice pace and
  • Do NOT rush through the workout

EXERCISES

  • Squats with overhead press (legs, shoulders and triceps)
  • Bicep curls with side steps (strengthens IT band, biceps, gluteus minimus)
  • Leg extensions with overhead press (legs, shoulders, triceps and abdominals)

GOOD LUCK and EMAIL ME if you have any questions!

MONDAY MOJO

When you are different from everyone else around you, it's easy to get discouraged and feel the need to change_change in a way to fit in or make yourself look like everyone else. But you are not like everyone else, you are YOU and I am ME. There is no one like me and there is no one like you. That's what makes life around US unique and interesting. Once you start to understand that your uniqueness is what others need to grow and expand their minds to new ideas, you will thrive in being yourself and you will no longer worry about being someone else.

Lena Horne was an international jazz superstar and a dynamic performer of striking appearance and elegant style. Lena Mary Calhoun Horne was born June 30, 1917, in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. In May 2010, Horne died at the age of 92.

MOVIN SHOES "WOMEN WHO FLY" AND HOKA ONE ONE EVENT

Can you see me? If you can, let me know where I am in this picture! This past weekend, I ran at the Coast to Crest Trail near the San Dieguito Lagoon. The group run, put together by Mick Geiskes from Movin Shoes, was called Women Who Fly and Geiskes invited  HOKA ONE ONE, the running shoes company to come out and play with us!

HOKA ONE ONE brought 3 bins of sneakers in different sizes, styles and colors for the runners to try on and run in. I was very excited because I have been curious about HOKA ONE ONE for quite some time. I have to admit, being a die-hard Asics fan, I was afraid to make the switch but I am hooked!

First, the thick heels were a little interesting at first, but my feet and lets quickly adjusted. HOKA ONE ONE appear to big and heavy, they are not. The HOKA ATR4 were incredibly light and surprisingly did not make my legs look like complete sticks! Once laced up, the HOKA ATR4 fit nicely around my lower ankles. I was also able to put my orthotics and heel raiser inside and my feet didn't come out of the shoes. Very cool! My legs and hips appreciated the stability and cushioning of the HOKA ATR4 as well!

Other than that, the run was great. I struggled little bit past 3 miles but nothing I could not handle.  It was a bit chilly at the start of the run but 1 mile into the run, it was nice and comfortable. There was great conversation and a few good pace setters out there. If you wanted to speed up, there was someone flying through the trail. If you wanted to slow down, there was someone cruising at a perfect pace along the trail. Of course, I had a great time meeting new people and learning about their next race, training schedules and how many miles they put in per week.

If you are looking for a running group, check out Movin Shoes meetup groups. There are A LOT to choose from and the workouts are "real workouts" lead by a "real coach" Mick Gieskes of UC San Diego and Movin Shoes. Mick is one of the nicest guys here in San Diego and he loves to help lead and guide new and seasoned runners. Click HERE for more information and dates for all of Movin Shoes next running meetup.
